Temple goers 10 of 48

This church is the same church at the end of these pictures. We couldn't go in because it had a gate but we could take pictures. You can see a women, if you zoom in, with a long pole and she is dusting everything. I think they're getting ready for Easter which is this Sunday here in Ukraine.
This is how they park on the sidewalks, any place that has room. So the people have to walk in the streets or walk around the cars.

These are the members that came to church Sunday as they were returning back from the temple. The sister on the right interpreted for me in Relief Society and was very helpful. The one in yellow led the music in Sacrament meeting. There were 48 of them and they had traveled all night to get to Lviv so they could go to church with us at 10:00 a.m. I think some of them were sealed together as families. What a blessing it was for them.

This church is not far from our apartment. We were coming home after dark one night and took this. It is always lit up at night and the trees are also lit up. It is very pretty at night. In the foreground is two Martshootka's, they're not always yellow.

Missionaries

Here are our Missionaries in our District. They are wonderful young men and are serving diligently. The one on the right front will leave the 15th of May. The back left and the right middle will leave the middle of June. We will be so sorry to have them go.

This is at the Orphanage which was pretty wild. This bunch of fine men are in the Rivne Branch. We had just finished having District meeting with them and were leaving to inspect their apartments. The 3 & 4 from the left are Zone leaders and are visiting. They were able to get us on a Marshootka (bus) to return to Lutsk.

It was quite the experience with these kids. They were so wanting our attention that they would do anything to get it. We were so glad to have our Zone leaders with us, they always take such good care of us, I don't know what we would do with out them. We will hate to have them go home. Marsha and Lena are in the back,(the tallest ones). Lena is a Branch Missionary and Marsha is-sorta like a Stake Missionary, they are both very enthusiastic and willing to help.

This is Elder Williams following the Missionaries in Lutsk to one of their apartments. There are a lot of the apartment buildings like this. Lutsk is a city of about 200,000 people and I think Rivne is smaller, They are not as big as Lviv that has over 1 million. Lviv has a lot of old buildings because during the war it was part of Poland and so the troops just walked through but Lutsk and Rivne were completely distroyed so they had to rebuild again so their buildings are newer.

Beautiful day

This is the University not too far from where we live. This is the first time we had seen it. It was a beautiful day and we had to go with the Elders so they took us by it.

Yes, no coats. This was also the first day I had not worn my boots, heavy coat, and scarve, it seemed so good. This is a Statue right across from the University of Franko, I guess he had a lot to do founding Lviv. He even had another city named after him Ivano-Frankivsk, here in Ukraine. There is a huge park behind him. We didn't see too much of it because the Missionaries wanted to go and eat. Surprise!

And here we have a McDonalds. This one is on Center street. We usually go to one a little closer to our apartment which I think is nicer.

This is also down the strip you might say right in front of the Opera House, it's about 5-6 blocks long and you can walk and they have benches all down it that you can catch your friends and play a game of chess or usually we see a boy and girl making out, or just sit and relax while you're waiting for your photo's to get developed which is what we were doing and just enjoying the sun.

Now here is who sat down after the boy and girl left. This red hair is very common except this is almost pink. A lot of the women have their hair dyed red, dark red. Young and old. You might think It was a mistake but no I don't think there is that many mistakes in Lviv.

We're getting ready to go to English class. We're teaching them about homograph's and homophone's. Homograph is two words that are spelled the same but is different in meaning. One might be a verb and the other is a noun. Like: The bandage was wound around the wound. Or
The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
Homophone: is a word that is pronounced the same way but is different in meaning and sometimes in spelling, as are "hair" and "hare."
"The baby started to (bawl, ball) when the (ball, bawl) hit him."
Today was rainy this morning but great this afternoon. We'll enjoy what we can.

Fashiion and Service

They wear very fashionable things in the city. Mostly boots like the blonde girl in the black jacket. Sometimes capris with their boots and you should see the fur coats may be I can get a shot of those later. When ever two people walk down the street together young, old, or young and old together they hold an arm like these two.

Even in the kitchen they have style, ha ha.
This is an authentic apron that they make. Sister Davis gave this one to me. It looks like I'm really busy but I'm probably just boiling water. We do have to make everything from scratch so I'm learning how to cook all over again. We have found some good places to eat out at also.

Our Service Project at the Park turned out very well. The two branches were represented. Two young men from the States were there to help. They used to be missionaries about 11 years ago. They came home and started up a charity to help orphanages over here. They have been doing it now for 10 years and they have put roofs on the buildings, made it so the children have 3 meals a day, clothes to wear and many more things, they spend 2 weeks over here a year and then have people over here help and our Branch Pres. is one of those that helps over see it.

The one standing by Elder Williams on the back row is one of the men that is helping with the orphanages and also the third one from the left is one. The one by Elder Williams has his wife and baby with him and she is also expecting in June. The other one didn't bring his wife this time. To the far right is a man who is the counselor to Pres. Davis our Mission President, his wife organized this activity and they have 3 small children. click on picture to zoom in

Yes, we always have food. Usually sandwiches with cheese. Their cheese is so-o-o good here. We never have potatoe chips just sandwiches, which I haven't had a good piece of bread yet, it's always dry, and cookies, pop or bottled water.

There were two older men that came by when we were eating and I think asked for some food, they looked like they needed it too and then I saw them walk away without anything. Then I saw the one with the hood on hurrying to catch up to the men, with two sandwiches and cookies in her hand to give to them. I thought that was a very Christ Like thing to do.
