Grape Harvest

On Aug. 24 the church in this area went a few miles North of Fresno to the vineyards which is the Welfare Project for the Church in this area.  Everyone came out, even us.  I couldn't get out of the car because I had just had Cataract surgery and it was so dirty there but Elder Williams had to go.

Our 1st ward had rows 289-293.  You can see how long the rows are.  The dirt is just powder.  You have a knife and you're suppose to put the big bowl underneath the rows to catch any grapes that fall because there is a lot of waste.

Grapes on the vines.  The vineyards are beautiful.

They then put them on thick paper to dry out in the sun.  We decided it took about 2 weeks for the process from start to finish.  After drying they turn into raisins and they wrap the paper around them and haul them away, clean them and package them.  Wal-l-l-a,  you have SunDried Raisins

They always had a lot of water for everyone and some brought treats. It was so hot.  They met at 6:00 a.m. and tried to finish by noon.   Some wards had lunch for there people and some gave them a health bar.

These are the knives they had.  Kids helped to.

Some people just got out of the car for a picture and then got back in.

Sister Weston from Wyoming.  We parked the car along the dirt road and I looked in and there she was.  She had just been transferred a couple of week ago.  She lived in our complex so we were close.  I couldn't believe it was her among all those people.  It was a great experience for everyone.
